Otter for LinkedIn: Privacy

The browser extension's privacy policy, in plain language.

Last updated 21 October 2026

Otter for LinkedIn is a browser extension from Otter (otter.diy). It adds a LinkedIn profile you're viewing to your own Otter hiring workspace.

What it collects

Only when you click the extension's button, it reads the profile page open in that tab:

  • name, headline, current role, location, experience, education and the profile link;
  • an email address, only if one is visible on the page.

It doesn't read other tabs, other pages or your browsing history.

How it's used

The profile link and any shown email are sent to your Otter workspace to check whether the person is already there. The rest is sent only when you click Add to Otter, to create or update that person in your workspace. That is the extension's only purpose.

Where it goes

Only to app.otter.diy, over HTTPS. It isn't sold, isn't used for advertising or for credit or lending decisions, and isn't shared with anyone except the service providers that run Otter (listed in the Otter Privacy Policy).

What's kept on your device

Your Otter connection token, in the browser's extension storage, until you disconnect or uninstall.

Connection tokens

Each connection is personal to you and your workspace, limited to what your role allows. Otter stores only a one-way hash of it. A connection that isn't used for 90 days is disconnected automatically, and the extension asks you to connect again.

Your controls

  • Disconnect in the extension or in Otter (Settings → Integrations → LinkedIn Extension).
  • Edit or delete candidate records in Otter.
  • Uninstalling the extension removes it and its token from your browser.

No background activity

No tracking, no analytics, no remote code and no automated browsing.
